Open enrollment permits you to make changes for any reason and occurs at the end of October with changes effective January 1st. Outside of the open enrollment period you may only enroll or drop coverage for yourself and/or your dependents under special circumstances, called qualified status changes, within 30 days of the applicable event.
Examples of qualified status changes include:
Your election change must be consistent with your event/status change.
You must notify Human Resources and complete your benefit election changes within 30 days of your status change.
